More and more substrate molecules being changed by an enzyme molecule as the temperature increases
Enzymes and temperature

Enzyme and substrate molecules must collide for biochemical reactions to occur. The more often they collide, the greater the number of reactions that will occur.

A rise in temperature gives molecules more energy, so they move faster. The faster they move:

  • The more collisions there will be between enzyme and substrate

So a rise in temperature will:

  • Initially increase the rate of enzyme action
